Nancy Callan & Katherine Gray: The Clown In Me Loves You

Fuller Craft Museum

September 20, 2025-March 1, 2026

The Clown In Me Loves You travels to the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA for it's third presentation. Featuring over thirty collaborative works in glass and mixed media by Callan & Gray, the exhibition explores the shifting position of the clown as a symbol of comedy, a figure of tragedy and a mirror for our times. In a series of wall panels, colorful patterns created with traditional Venetian cane techniques are combined with sculpted and enameled elements, referencing clowns, circuses and current events with a collage-like sensibility. Sculptural works include a pair of oversized blown-glass clown horns (Tell Us How You REALLY Feel, 2020) that quietly play a dual soundtrack of the artists laughing and crying. The Fuller presentation features a major new work, Tramp Tromp, consisting of over 250 hand-sculpted glass flowers in a rainbow carpet, punctuated by heavy black footprints.

Originating at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in 2021, The Clown In Me Loves You traveled to the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art at California State University San Bernadino (CSUSB) in 2023. The artists gratefully thank BIMA Director Greg Robinson for support of this project.

A limited number of original show catalogues are available through the Fuller Craft Museum Gift Shop.
